A pies bird (English: pie bird or pie funnel ) is a small hollow ceramic chimney in the form of a bird, which in the UK in the baking of pies is used.

The pâté bird is passed through the center of the pastry lid to allow the steam to escape during baking.

Small ceramic pie chimneys became popular in the 1940s. They later took the form of blackbirds , thrushes and other birds, including cook or cartoon characters , and have now become collectibles. Other shapes are cones or cylinders turned or handcrafted from hardwood .

In German-language cookbooks of the 18th century, small chimneys made of dough were used to prepare pies.

As a makeshift, small chimneys made of baking paper or aluminum foil serve the same purpose.
