Adler locomotive of the Patentee type

Patentee was a 1A1 - steam locomotive type , which in 1833 by Robert Stephenson and Company as an enlargement of the 1A - Planet -type was introduced. The axle sequence , consisting of a leading axle , a driven driving axle and a trailing axle , not only achieved greater stability, but also enabled a larger fire box than the older A1 and 1A types.

The first Adler locomotive successfully used in Germany was a patentee built by Robert Stephenson and Company . Further specimens were exported to the Netherlands (especially the Arend in 1839 ) as well as to Russia and Italy . The first Le Belge steam locomotive built in Belgium was also a Patentee , manufactured in 1835 by John Cockerill under license from Stephenson. Until 1838 this type was the usual design for passenger locomotives from Robert Stephenson and Company.
