The term patent specification refers to a granted patent and is to be distinguished from the laid- open specification (publication of a patent application ). The following details are typically explained in the patent specification:

  • Description of the technical field of the invention
  • Presentation of the current state of the art
  • Presentation of the technical problem
  • Presentation of the problem solution
  • Explanation of the invention based on at least one exemplary embodiment
  • Representation of the advantages achieved by the invention
  • List of claims
  • Summary
  • Images (if any)
  • Name of the inventor or inventors
  • Designation of the applicant
  • In the case of priority, reference to the first filing with indication of the priority date (e.g. in another country)
