Patile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Patile , also referred to as Ganges Patile , Patilé , Patalia or Patella, was a type of Indian sailing ship. The sailing ship was used on the Ganges from the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century .

The one-master was equipped with a large balancing rudder that was easy to move. The planking of the ship was exceptional. The patile was bricked, similar to the cogs of the Hanseatic era. A long deckhouse gave the ship an appearance that was reminiscent of a houseboat.
