Patrice Dodin

Patrice Dodin (* in France ; † January 1979 in Paris ) was a French motorcycle racer .

Dodin was the first to die in the Dakar Rally . He drove for the first edition of the Dakar Rally in 1979 on January 6, 1979 with an unsecured helmet at the start of the 4th stage Agadez - Tahoua in Niger and lost control of his Yamaha XT 500 when attempting to close his helmet and fell. When he fell, he lost his helmet, hit his head on a stone and suffered a fractured skull. He was taken to a hospital in Paris and died a few days later.
