Patrick John Tristram Lawrence, 5th Baron Trevethin and 3rd Baron Oaksey (born June 29, 1960 ) is a British peer and has been a member of the House of Lords since October 2015 .

Family and life

Patrick Lawrence comes from a British family of lawyers who held senior legal positions in the UK and international justice administration during the 20th century. The 1st Baron Trevethin, ennobled in 1921, was Lord Chief Justice of England . The current Baron's grandfather, Geoffrey Lawrence, 1st Baron Oaksey , was Chairman of the International Court of Justice in Nuremberg .

Patrick Lawrence was born the son of John Geoffrey Lawrence 4th Baron Trevethin and 2nd Baron Oaksey (1929–2012) and his wife Victoria Denistoun. He studied law at Christ Church College of Oxford University . He has been a barrister since 1985 . Since 2002 he has been Attorney-General (Queen's Counsel). After the death of his father he inherited his title and became 5th Baron Trevethin and 3rd Baron Oaksey. After the resignation of David Montgomery, 2nd Viscount Montgomery of Alamein at the end of August 2015, Lawrence applied for his successor as a member of the House of Lords in the by-election due under the House of Lords Act 1999 and became Montgomery's successor on October 15, 2015 elected. Since he is non-party, he is one of the so-called Crossbenchers in the House of Lords .
