Pattamar

The Pattamar or Patimar is a one and a half, two or three-masted Indian sailing ship . The larger, typically three-masted ships have load capacities between 200 and 300 tons and are mainly used in coastal waters despite their suitability for high seas. The good sailing properties result from the slim, sword-like profile of the fore and the favorable width-to-length ratio. The masts are inclined to the front by about 20 ° and carry sloping yards made up of spars. When fully loaded, the low freeboard was usually raised with palm mats on the high seas.

Similar Arab ships, but of a different size, were the Sambuke , Bagalla and Ghanja .
