Henri Lavedan
Henri Léon Émile Lavedan (born April 9, 1859 in Orléans , † September 4, 1940 in Paris ) was a French writer and journalist.
Life
The son of journalist Léon Lavedan studied law in Paris for a year before devoting himself entirely to writing. He wrote articles for the magazines L'Écho de Paris , Le Figaro and Gil Blas , which later appeared as books in several volumes. His first success as a playwright was the four-act comedy Une famille , which premiered at the Théâtre-Français in 1890 and earned him the Prix Toirac of the Académie française .
His most important pieces are Le Prince d'Aurec (premiered in 1892 at the Théâtre du Vaudeville ), Le Marquis de Priola (1902 at the Théâtre-Français) and the drama Le Duel , which premiered in 1905 at the Comédie-Française . Several of his plays have also been made into films, such as Catherine by Mario Caserini ( Caterina , 1921) and Le Duel by Pierre Fresnay (1939). He wrote the scenario for L'assassinat du duc de Guise (film by André Calmettes and Charles Le Bargy , 1908). He also wrote several novels and short stories.
Lavedan was named commander of the Legion of Honor. In 1898 he became a member of the Académie française as the successor to Henri Meilhac .
