Paul Bar

Paul Bar (born November 5, 1853 in Paris , † November 26, 1945 in Paris ) was a French doctor and university professor. He was a student of Stéphane Tarnier and is considered one of the founders of modern obstetrics.

After studying under Stéphane Tarnier, among others, Bar received his doctorate in 1881. His doctoral thesis was entitled "Pathogénie de l'hydramnios". In 1885 he was chief physician at the Tenon Clinic in Paris. Later he was also head of the gynecological department at the Hôpital Saint-Louis and the Hôpital Saint-Antoine . From 1895 he was appointed professor. He was a member of the Académie nationale de Médecine from 1907. In 1926 he became chairman of the same. Bar was a pioneer of antisepsis and organized midwifery training for the first time in France. One of the umbilical clamps he developed is called the Clamp du Docteur BAR .
