Paul Barolsky
Paul Barolsky (born July 13, 1941 ) is an American art historian.
Barolsky received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1969 (his dissertation resulted in his catalog raisonné by Daniele da Volterra ) and then taught at the University of Virginia , where he was Commonwealth Professor of Art History.
He deals with the art of the Renaissance and has published, among others, on Michelangelo and in several works with Giorgio Vasari . According to Barolsky, Vasari's biographies are in part fairly free literary inventions. He also treats Vasari as a source of social history, such as the role of the family.
He was a Guggenheim Fellow and visiting scholar at the Getty Research Institute and the American Academy in Rome.
