from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Denis is a Haitian politician and Minister of Justice and Public Security in the government of René Préval .

Denis was an opposition politician and senator during the presidency of Jean-Bertrand Aristide . One day after the parliamentary elections on May 21, 2000, he was arrested and charged with possession of illegal weapons, but was later released.

When Aristide went into exile, Denis, together with Cabinet Minister Leslie Voltaire and Haitian UN representative Adama Guindo, was appointed as a three-man council to prepare the interim government. In the presidential election in 2006 he ran for the Òganizasyon Pèp Kap Lité (OPL) and received 2.62% of the vote.

Denis later became Minister of Justice in the government of René Préval. Denis was buried in the earthquake on January 12, 2010 and was only surprisingly rescued from a hole in the ground on January 21. He had previously been pronounced dead.
