Paul Raabe (industrialist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paul Raabe (* 1883; † 1967) was an industry manager, member of the board of the Hermann-Göring-Werke and general agent for the distribution of iron ore mining in occupied Lorraine and Luxembourg .

Life

Little is known about Paul Raabe's life. His father Max Raabe and his brother Karl Raabe were CEOs of Maxhütte AG , which belonged to the Flick Group . In the town of Sulzbach-Rosenberg , the headquarters of Maxhütte AG, there is a so-called Villa-Max, popularly Raabe-Villa, whose name goes back to the general directors Max and Karl Raabe and which is located in Flick-Park.

Professional background

Paul Raabe is mentioned when he became a member of the board of the Reichswerke AG for ore mining and metallurgy "Hermann Göring " in 1940 . In June 1940 he was appointed general agent for the distribution of iron ore mining in Lorraine and Luxembourg ( Longvy , Briey , Metz -Tionville and Nancy ) with the responsible military commanders in France and Belgium. General Hermann von Hanneken , the general representative for the iron and steel industry of Hitler, had initially designated Wilhelm Wittke (1884–1943) for this task. At the instigation of the Göring works, Paul Raabe was named, to the annoyance of Hanneken and Georg Thomas , the head of the Defense Economics and Armaments Office. They assumed that Paul Pleiger , Hitler's Reich Commissioner for Coal, hoped to benefit from this.

The iron and steel works in Lorraine were split up, with the Rombacher Hütte being assigned to the Flick Group in trust. It is noteworthy that this plant was operated in the first years after the occupation of France by his brother Karl Raabe and later by Otto-Ernst Flick , the 25-year-old son of Friedrich Flick, until the evacuation at the end of the war. The Hermann-Göring-Werke owned the ore mines in the region through Paul Raabe.

Individual evidence

  1. How little research has been done into the life of this important manager during the Nazi era is shown by the following statement: “ About the director of the Braunschweig steelworks and general trustee of the Reichswerke in the General Government, Paul Raabe, and the lawyer, the member of the board responsible for the expansion to the east Hans Conrad Delius, nothing is known that only supports the characterization “out of nowhere”.
