Pearl (drag queen)

Pearl (actually Matthew James Lent; born September 11, 1990 , Saint Petersburg , Florida ) is an American drag queen . He gained notoriety in the seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race , where he took second place.

Earlier years of life

Lent was born in Saint Petersburg in 1990 and lived there with his mother and two sisters. He spent time drawing "rich old ladies with big diamond rings and furs" who eventually turned into his drag persona.

Drag career

Pearl without drag

After moving to Chicago , he performed in 2012 with Kim Chi under the stage name "Pearl" as a drag. He called Pearl's persona a robot bitch. Pearl initially only planned to use drag as a hobby, but quickly began booking more and more concerts. He later moved to Brooklyn .

In December 2014, Pearl was announced by Logo as one of the seventh season contestants in RuPaul's Drag Race . Despite a sluggish competitive start, Pearl rebounded to win two major challenges and eventually became a finalist alongside competitors Ginger Minj and Violet Chachki. He took second place. In the final, Violet Chachki was declared the winner. Pearl finished second.

music

On June 2, 2015, Lent released the album Pleasure and a music video for his first single Love Slave . Unlike other albums released by Drag Race alumni, Pleasure doesn't include vocals from Lent. Instead, he produced the entire album. The album landed at number eleven on the US Billboard charts in the Dance / Electronic Albums category and number 16 by the Heatseekers.

Perfume

On June 2, 2015, Lent announced the release of a fragrance, Flazéda, with perfume company Xyrena. He became the first Drag Race Alumni member with his own fragrance. The fragrance has been available since June 30, 2015.
