A bearing tower (Spanish: Torres de defensa or Torres d'Enfilació ) is a tower that was built by the navy on the coast and is used for navigation.

Construction

Such a tower supports boats or submarines in determining their position using a cross bearing .

On the north coast of Mallorca , 28 bearing towers were erected in pairs by the Spanish Navy at a distance of 1,240 meters, 200 meters apart. The towers were used by the Spanish fleet for deck bearings during military exercises from around 1941 to 1970 . These towers, reminiscent of obelisks with their slim design , were often painted white and the top was marked in red.
