Hans-Werner Peiniger (born March 18, 1957 ) is a German UFO researcher . Since 1972 he has been chairman of the Society for Research into the UFO Phenomenon (GEP) based in Lüdenscheid .

Tormenter works as a technical employee in a telecommunications company and has been dealing with the UFO phenomenon since childhood. At the beginning of his interest he himself saw numerous UFO apparitions that were inexplicable to him at the time. As a supporter of the UFO belief, he also sat at the window at night and used a flashlight to send rhythmic light signals into the sky - but the hoped-for response from the extraterrestrial visitors did not materialize.

In order not to limit himself to studying ufological literature, he founded the UFO youth club Lüdenscheid in 1972 and began to collect UFO sightings from others and to deal with the visual appearance of conventional aircraft and natural phenomena. It quickly became clear that a large number of the sightings could be traced back to conventional causes. Not only did more and more spectacular UFO sightings turn out to be due to earthly phenomena and thus explainable, the well-known UFO photos could also be identified as forgeries. These facts, which were sobering for him as a former UFO believer, made him a critical UFO researcher who wanted to investigate things himself through interviews with witnesses and field investigations.

Working closely with his colleague Gerald Mosbleck, the Lüdenscheid UFO Youth Club became the Association for Research into Unknown Phenomena (GEP) , which in 1984 was renamed the Society for Research into the UFO Phenomenon (GEP) .

After now well over 2,000 processed UFO sightings, countless discussions with witnesses and numerous on-site investigations, Peiniger takes a more critical point of view today. After that, it seems unlikely to him that we are currently being visited by an alien civilization.

Peiniger is the author of numerous specialist articles on UFO research, employee of the journal Journal for UFO Research (jufof) published by GEP eV and specializes in the investigation of UFO observations with a focus on witness interviews and field investigations.
