Peliosis hepatis

With peliosis hepatis a disease is liver referred obtained by blood-filled cysts is characterized. These cysts arise from the destruction of liver tissue (parenchymatous form) or from the bulging of the central vein of the liver lobule (phlebectatic form).

In addition to humans, (bacillary) Peliosis hepatis also occurs in cattle , cats , dogs and rats . In humans, it has been seen with infection with Bartonella henselae (the causative agent of cat scratch disease ) and Bartonella quintana (especially in immunocompromised patients), with tuberculosis, or with therapy with anabolic steroids or androgens .
