The Hip Hop Kemp is one of the largest hip hop festivals in Europe. It takes place annually in the third week of August for four days in the Czech Republic .
history
The festival was held for the first time in 2002 and since then has dedicated itself to the idea of the community and the "four elements" of hip-hop culture . That is why the motto "Festival With Atmosphere" was created.
DJ workshops, breakdance battles and opportunities for graffiti campaigns have been on the program since the beginning of the festival, as have performances by international MCs and groups , with less emphasis on big names and complicated technology than on content and live quality. Groups from different European countries as well as from the USA and Canada were invited. This is a risk insofar as it is common in hip-hop to write your texts in your own national language, although rap from Austria or Switzerland is not always understood equally by all German-speaking visitors. There are also groups mainly from the Czech Republic , Slovakia and Poland .
In its early days, the festival took place twice in Pardubice , in 2004 the “Hip Hop Kemp” moved to larger open spaces in Hradec Králové on the banks of the Silver Lake. Since 2005 the "Hip Hop Kemp" has been held on the former Soviet airfield, which with its spacious hangars offers ideal conditions for several event rooms and stages.
Due to the proximity to the Polish and German borders, which was advantageous for the choice of both Pardubice and Hradec Králové as an event location, a large Central European catchment area is available. In 2011, for the 10th anniversary, a new visitor record with 25,000 participants was recorded.
