biography

Kieda Brewer was born in San Mateo in the mid- 1970s . He first came into contact with hip-hop culture as a break dancer . He then became part of the Children of One Destiny group, which consisted of Saafir , Friz-B and Eb.F alongside him . Saafir eventually left the group to pursue a solo career, after which it was renamed Various Blends in 1991 and Brewer also began rapping. He took the name Rasco, as acronym for " R ealistic, a mbitious, s erious, c autious, and o rganized". The trio released the single Chill as I Flex in 1995 , which only had local success. Even before a joint album was recorded, Rasco decided to leave the group and sign with Peanut Butter Wolf's label Stones Throw Records .

There his single The Unassisted was released in 1997 , for which he received various honors. It was, among other No. 1 on the Independent - Hip-hop - charts of the music magazine hits out and held for four weeks, the top ranking in the nationally syndicated radio show The Wake Up Show Sway and King Tech. As a result, Rasco began working on his debut album Time Waits for No Man , which was released in 1998 via Stones Throw. The work did not hit the Billboard 200 , but was named the best independently published album of 1998 by hip-hop magazine The Source , and Rasco and the label achieved satisfactory sales.

The international distribution of Time Waits for No Man was assigned to the London label Copasetik Records, which then showed interest in being responsible for Rasco's music in the USA. Rasco agreed, but soon had problems with the company, whereupon he founded his own label, Pockets Linted. Nonetheless, in 1999 his next project, the EP The Birth , inspired by his daughter's birth , was about copasetics.

However, he then worked on Pockets Linted's first work, the compilation 20,000 Leagues Under the Street Volume 1 , which was released in 2000 and on which Phil the Agony , Zion I and Planet Asia appeared alongside Rasco . With the latter he founded the duo Cali Agents and released their album, How the West Was One , in the same year .

In the following years he worked repeatedly with Planet Asia as Cali Agents. First, however, he returned to Copasetik Records and released his second solo album Hostile Environment in 2001 , before moving to the New York label Coup d'Etat Records, where Escape from Alcatraz was released in 2003 .

All other albums with which he moved in the underground , were published independently through Pockets Linted.
