The Peneia pony is a breed of horse originating from the Greek province of Eleia .

Exterior
The Peneia pony has an expressive head, a straight profile, intelligent eyes, small ears, a strong straight neck, a lush mane with a strong forelock, a low-set tail and small, hard hooves. The hind legs are often set up like a cow and the hindquarters appear weak. Nevertheless, the Peneia pony is stronger than the other Greek horse breeds and is very suitable as a mountain horse.
The height is between 127 and 142 cm. Often stitchhaired , foxes and black horses represented, rarely brown and dusky.

The peneia pony was valued in ancient times as a riding and pack pony because of its willing and undemanding nature.
Breeding history
Formerly used in agriculture, the Peneia pony is now threatened with extinction due to mechanization.
