Pennsylvania State Messenger

The Pennsylvania State Messenger was a German-language newspaper in the United States.

It looks back on a long tradition in the USA. The "Pennsylvanian State Messenger" published by Heinrich Miller reported on July 5, 1776 about the decision of the Continental Congress to accept the American Declaration of Independence . It was the first newspaper to publish this historic decision. It printed the full text of the declaration in German translation in its next edition on July 9th.

The English text was printed on the evening of July 4th for members of Congress and was read by the American people on July 6th in the Pennsylvania Evening Post.
