International Railway of Maine

The International Railway of Maine was a railway company in Maine ( United States ). The 232.7 kilometer route ran from the Canadian border near Mégantic to Mattawamkeag . It connected the two route networks of the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in the British colonies of Canada and New Brunswick . With the closing of this last gap between the Pacific and the Atlantic , the CPR became a transcontinental railroad.

Originally from the Penobscot and Lake Megantic Railroad plans that are not yet built route was taken over in 1881 by the International Railway of Maine that on November 2, 1886, by operating the opening of the first section in the US, even from the Atlantic and Northwest Railway bought has been. Only a few weeks later, on December 6, 1886, the CPR took over the route network. Today the connection is part of the network of the Central Maine and Quebec Railway .
