Penzance Bay is a well-known bay on Tennyson Inlet in the Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand . The Tennyson Inlet is an arm of the Pelorus Sound . The bay is immediately north of Tuna Bay , both of which can be accessed via the same road, Archers Road. It is approximately 75 minutes' drive from Nelson City .

The Penzance Bay area is sparsely populated. There are few permanent residents and mostly only holiday huts ("Baches") and holiday homes.

The bay has a pebble beach, which is unusual for the area's rocky straits. It is therefore known as a safe bathing beach. With a boat ramp and large wharf, Penzance Bay is popular with pleasure boating and fishing enthusiasts.

There are hiking trails that connect several neighboring bays, such as Duncan Bay and Elaine Bay . Penzance Bay is surrounded by forest, much of which is still in its original state. This forest is home to numerous species of southern beeches ( Nothofagus ), conifers and epiphytes . In early summer, large numbers of the ground orchid Pterostylis banksii bloom on the hiking trails. The Maori name for this orchid is tutukiwi , which translated means kiwi beak .
