Peptide transporter 1 (PepT1) or SLC15A1 (solute carrier family 15, member 1) is a transport protein in the luminal cell membrane of the epithelial cells in the intestine and kidney of humans. It belongs to the class of SLC transporters and, as a tertiary active symport carrier - with the help of an H + gradient directed into the cell - absorbs oligopeptides (mainly di- and tripeptides ) from food. In humans, the SLC15A1 gene codes for the synthesis of the protein.
