On January 4, 1947, 29-year-old Per Aarsleff left a secure position with the Danish state. He borrowed DKK 10,000 from his father's life insurance, bought an excavator, rented two more and opened a brown coal field near Fasterholt in Central Jutland . The company's founder Per Aarsleff died in 2006 at the age of 87.
