Periodical Contents Index

The Periodical Contents Index ( PCI ) is a commercial bibliographic database of the company ProQuest contains the evidence to articles from the last 200 years (1770-1995), which in journals of the Humanities ( Humanities published) and social sciences. Currently (spring 2005) there are over 4600 journals with 14.2 million articles in 37 specialist categories.

Worldwide free access to this database is not possible. Citizens residing in Germany have the option, upon application, of free personal access for scientific purposes within the framework of the national licenses funded by the German Research Foundation.

A variant of the PCI is the comparatively expensive offer PCI Full Text, which also enables access to selected full-text articles from 350 journals. It is only available as a licensed database in a few central European libraries . However, this is also available with the second basket of national licenses from the DFG.
