Periosteal massage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The periosteal massage (also periosteal treatment) is a sub-form of the reflex zone massage and is one of the alternative medical procedures. With her, strong, painful pressure is exerted on the periosteum ( periosteum ). The muscles above are not affected.

Proponents of this treatment expect the periosteal massage to have a local effect on the one hand, i.e. at the location of the massage, and on the other hand, a reflective, i.e. pain-relieving effect on the internal organs.

application

The periosteal treatment is a punctiform “pressure massage” that is performed on suitable bone surfaces. The treatment is performed with the fingertip or the knuckle of a finger.

Mode of action

Representatives of this treatment method explain the mode of action in the stimulation of the local blood flow and cell regeneration, especially in the tissues of the periosteum, in the reflex influence on organs that are nervously connected to the treated periosteal surfaces. In addition, the method should have a soothing effect on painful disease processes.

Remote effects : The remote effect on internal organs, the remote effect, comes about according to naturopathic ideas because the spinal cord and certain body segments are connected by nerve tracts. An irritation to the bone also leads to a reaction in these connected parts of the body.

Contra- / indication

Representatives expect the periosteal massage to have a pain-relieving effect on osteoarthritis , back pain and fibromyalgia . The reflex effect on the internal organs should be able to treat duodenal ulcers , complaints of the bladder or the digestive tract.
