Peripteros with peristasis

Peristasis ( Greek  περίστασις ) is the column wreath , which in a peripteros completely surrounds the cella at a certain distance, so that a corridor surrounding the cella (called a ring hall or pteron ) is formed, which was used for cult processions .

However, when a wreath of columns surrounds an inner courtyard or garden , it is not called a peristasis, but a peristyle .
