Persita Tangerang is a football club from Tangerang , Indonesia . It was actually founded in 1945, but officially approved by the PSSi in 1953. For this reason, September 9, 1953 counts as the foundation day. The club currently plays in the country's highest league, Liga 1. The club plays its home games in the 15,000-seat Benteng Stadium . The club was national runner-up in 2002 and 2012.
Before being promoted to the first division in 2020, the club last played in the top Indonesian league in 2014, the then Indonesia Super League .
In the 2003 season they took part in the ASEAN Club Championship and reached the quarter-finals, in which they lost 2-1 to the eventual winner Kingfisher East Bengal from India .
