Tangerang is a city of millions in the northeast of the Indonesian province of Banten . It is located about 20 km west of Jakarta and is the third largest city in the Jabodetabek metropolitan area .

location

Tangerang is between 10 and 18 m high. There are swamps in some areas of the city, including those at the airport. The river Cidane ( Sungai Cisadane ) flows into the Java Sea here and divides the city in two halves. The Cipondoh Lake is 126 hectares and is located in the southwest of the city in the district of the same name ( Kecamatan ). In the north and west, the urban area is enclosed by the administrative district (Indonesian Kabupaten ) Tangerang, from which the city was spun off by Law No. 2/1993. The southern border forms the municipality of Selatan West (indones. Kota Tangerang Selatan ), which was only created in 2008. To the east, Tangerang borders the city of Jakarta ( Kodya Barat and Selatan districts). Kota Tangerang's extreme coordinates lie between 6 ° 6 '- 6 ° 14' south latitude and 106 ° 36 '- 106 ° 42' east longitude.

The region has a tropical climate. The temperature in 2013 was between 24 and 34 ° C, with an average of 32.3 ° C. In 2013 there were 15 rainy days per month - most of them in December and January. In the same year there was an average of 192 mm of rain per month, most of it in January (555 mm), the humidity averaged 76.7%.

population

With 1,798,601 inhabitants (Census 2010), Tangerang was in sixth place in the ranking of Indonesia's most populous cities. The majority of the population is of the Islamic faith (2010 Census: 88.25%), only Buddhists (3.69%), Protestants (5.30%) and Catholics (2.28%) are noteworthy. Tangerang has a large Chinese community with its own cemetery. The population growth rate was 2.77% between 2010 and 2013 and is declining. There is a surplus of men in all districts, with an average of 104 men for every 100 women in the entire administrative district. 33.26% of the population over 10 years of age (2010 Census: 1,466,020) are single, 61.83% married, 3.14% divorced and 0.32% widowed. The population according to the continuation of the population register (DKCS 2013, indones. Ditjen Kependudukan dan Catatan Sipil ) was 1,952,396 in 2013. In 2013 there were 509,764 households with an average household size of 3.8 people.

The municipality ( Kota ) Tangerang is divided into 13 districts ( Kecamatan ), which in turn consist of 104 villages ( Kelurahan ).

traffic

The International Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is located in the two northeastern districts Benda and Neglasari. Tangerang is the terminus of the Duri railway line of the KRL Jabodetebak , which runs over 19 km to West Jakarta (Duri). The Merak-Jakarta No. 1 motorway with its three junctions runs right through the city. Furthermore, a ring road connects the city with Jakarta , Bekasi and Bogor . In the city there are also numerous bus stops for inner-city traffic, for traffic to the surrounding area and to Jakarta. With the neighboring municipality of South Tangerang ( Kota Tagerang Selatan ) and the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) Tangerang, there is a zone Tangerang Raya , in which more than five million people live on 1500 km² and which includes over 1000 industrial areas (especially near Balaraja, Cisoka and Cikupa) .

Industry

Numerous companies have branches and branches in Tangerang, and there are also shopping centers in the city. The old market in the city center near the Great Mosque ( Masjid Agung ) with stalls and snack bars is well known. There are seven (private) universities in Tangerang, including the International University Liaison Indonesia .

In 2013 there were 423,135 hotel nights, 15% of them from abroad (63,419) in the 31 hotels (with 1847 rooms). In the same year the 21 tourist objects visited 424,852 tourists - 84,617 of them from abroad (19.9%).

  • The Situ Gintung is a reservoir in the south of Tangerang, which was built in the Dutch colonial period and completed in 1933.

The football club Persita Tangerang plays in the top Indonesian league.

history

The administrative city of Tangerang is formed by government decree No. 50/1981 and by law No. 2/1993 the municipality ( Kotamadya ) of Tangerang is formed and separated from the administrative district of the same name ( Kabupaten ).
