Peshawar Valley Field Force

The Peshawar Valley Field Force was a British force led by Lieutenant General Sir Samuel Browne during the Second Anglo-Afghan War from 1878 to 1880. In the first battle of the war, this force consisted of 12,000 men from various British and Indian regiments in one cavalry , one artillery and four infantry brigades . The Peshawar Valley Field Force successfully carried out the first armed conflict of the Second Anglo-Afghan War in the Battle of Ali Masjid on November 21, 1878. On the first night of this battle, the Afghan forces left Fort Ali Masjid at the central strategic position on the Khyber Pass . That is why this armed conflict was relatively bloodless.

The cavalry brigade led Brigadier General Charles JS Gough , the Royal Artillery Colonel W. J. Williams and the infantry brigades the Brigadier Generals Herbert T. MacPherson , John A. Tytler , Frederick E. Appleyard and W. Browne in this battle.
