Peter Frei (sports educator)

Peter Frei (* 1963 ) is a German sports educator and university teacher .

Life

Frei studied sports science and German language and literature in Cologne , from 1995 to 2001 he worked as a research assistant at the pedagogical seminar of the German Sports University in Cologne , where his doctoral thesis in sports education was accepted in 1998. In 2007 he completed his habilitation at the sports university , the subject of his paper was “Communicative Sports Pedagogy: Data-Characteristics-Perspectives”. In addition to his work in sports education, Frei also held several teaching positions at the Institute for Sports Journalism at the Sports University.

From 2001 to 2006 he was employed as a research assistant at the chair for sports pedagogy and didactics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena , and from 2003 to 2006 he was acting head of the chair. From 2006 he was a substitute professor at the Institute for Sports Science and Sports Education of the University of Hildesheim , before he took up a full professorship there in 2007 and was appointed head of the Institute for Sports Science.

Frei works primarily in the areas of school sports, sports and media, as well as competitive sports for children and young people. In 2012, together with Swen Körner, he published the book “The Possibility of Sports: Contingency in the Focus of Sports Science Analyzes”.

Between 2012 and 2018 he was co-editor of the journal for sports pedagogical research , of which he was co-founder.
