In 1971 he drove a Lola 23B in various non-championship races before starting in 1972 with a Chevron B8 in the interseries and non-championship races. In 1973 he reached third place in the SRP + 2.0 class at the non-championship race in Sembach .

After a break he entered the 2nd division of the Interseries in 1979 with a Lola T390 . There he and Roland Binder achieved sixth place in the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring, his best placement in an interseries race. In the inter-series season classification, he reached ninth place.

Since the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring in 1979 was rated simultaneously in the sports car world championship and in the interseries, Groh drove his first and only world championship race there. Together with Binder he reached the 12th place and at the same time the S 2.0 class victory.

In 1980 he started again in a non-championship race in Zolder with a VW Scirocco and finished in 19th place. Then he ended his motorsport career.
