Peter Poiger

Peter Poiger is a former Austrian basketball player and referee.

career

Poiger took part with the Austrian national basketball team in the qualifying tournament for the 1972 Olympic Games , five years later he played at the European Championship in Belgium, after the team had unexpectedly climbed from group C to group A.

He played a total of 107 international matches for Austria.

At the club level, Poiger played for UBSC Vienna, with whom he determined basketball events in Austria in the 1970s and early 1980s, won several championships and competed in the European Cup.

As a referee, he was also active on an international level and led, among other things, European Cup games.

Poiger's wife Gisela was a former Austrian national basketball player, she died in October 2017. Their son Richard was also a national basketball player.
