Peter's fire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petersfeuer (also: Peterfeuer, Peterlfeuer, Peter-und-Paul-Feuer ) are burned down in Austrian and Bavarian communities around June 29th . Organizers are local associations such as B. the volunteer fire brigade . It is a variant of the more common St. John's fire . The pile of wood is cut up days beforehand, and when it is burned down in the evening, a straw dummy is often burned, the so-called "Peter". There is still no generally accepted explanation for the burning of the doll. When the shock has burned down, fire jumping begins. According to tradition, one then has one wish.
