Petersen & Albeck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Petersen & Albeck was a Danish company in the steel and metal recycling industry that continues to operate under a different name today. Petersen & Albeck was the oldest scrapping yard in Denmark.

history

Petersen & Albeck S / A was founded in Copenhagen in 1870 through the merger of FW Petersen & Co and Carl Albeck & Co. FW Petersen & Co already existed in 1858 and was known as trading in old ropes, rags, bones, iron and other metals. The company was headquartered in Copenhagen with a warehouse in Fiskerihavnsgade, a shipping dock at Enghave Brygge and a shipbuilding yard in the fishing port for scrapping ships. After the merger in 1870, the new facility was built in the south harbor, which was specially designed for ship scrapping (Skibsophugningsværftet).

The business field included the recycling of metal scrap and other residues throughout Denmark. The "Petersen & Albeck" area in the south harbor of Copenhagen today contains a monument. The main building, built in 1918, was inaugurated in 1920. The combined office and warehouse building was designed by the architect GB Hagen in the style of national romanticism and is now a listed building. In 1920 the area was connected to the network of the Danske Statsbaner with an industrial track . The catchment area in Denmark was expanded with the establishment of a widely spread branch network.

takeover

In 1999 Petersen & Albeck was sold to Uniscrap A / S and shortly afterwards was taken over by the German group Scholz Holding , which is represented with collection points and recycling facilities in more than 20 countries. Petersen & Albeck continues to operate in Denmark under the name Uniscrap A / S.
