Petite Île ( German Small Island ) is a small, uninhabited island directly in front of the Cap du Fil on the south coast of Réunion , the main island of the French overseas department of the same name in the western Indian Ocean .
geography
The 2.24 hectare island is less than 60 meters off the south coast of the main island of Réunion. It extends over 290 meters from northeast to southwest and is a maximum of 100 meters wide. It reaches a height of 32 meters.
history
The Petite Île gave the municipality Petite-Île , to which it belongs, the name. On a map of Réunion from 1661 it is recorded as Roches Islet .
