Umi Garrett

Umi Garrett (born August 15, 2000 ) is an American classical pianist .

Life

childhood

Garret started playing the piano at the age of four. She has also played the violin and has taken ballet lessons since she was 2½ years old.

education

She began her formal training under the guidance of Itoe and Yoshie Akimoto. Garrett is currently studying with John Perry at the Colburn School of Music, and is on the Colburn Academy program. Umi Garrett takes an active part in international music festivals such as the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy, the Cochem Music Festival in Germany or the Sydney International Master Class Festival in Australia. She was invited to the Killington Music Festival in Vermont as the youngest participant in the festival's 26-year history.

Career

"Wonder child"

In May 2009, 8-year-old “child prodigy” Umi Garrett appeared on NBC's Ellen DeGenere Show . This gave her such notoriety that her young career skyrocketed and she received invitations from around the world to perform regularly with symphony orchestras in the United States and around the world. On April 16, 2011, she performed all three Mozart Concerts with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra. 23 in one go, conducted by Maestro Toshimasa Francis Wada. Umi Garrett's early highlights include a performance with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, sponsored by NPR's From the Top, and her debut with the Desert Symphony (orchestra) in Palm Desert , California in 2009, both at the age of 9 Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major was performed.

In 2010 Garrett won the second International Chopin Competition in Hartford, Connecticut with a perfect rating from all three judges and was then invited to play at Carnegie Hall . In the same year Garrett performed with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops and made her orchestral debut with the Desert Symphony in Palm Desert, California .

In 2011 Garrett played at the Assisi nel Mondo Festival. Garrett has played with the Charlotte Symphony (orchestra) in Florida , the Thayer Symphony (orchestra) in Massachusetts , the Saddleback Symphony (orchestra) in California, the Indiana Chamber Orchestra in Indianapolis, and the Missouri Symphony (orchestra) in Columbia (California) .

Concerts and trips

At the age of 12, in June, she won 1st prize at the Chopin Competition in Budapest , Hungary. and in October at the 13th Osaka International Music Competition in Japan (your age group, in Section 2) and the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition in New York earlier this year.

In March 2012 she played at the International Piano Stars Festival in Lithuania as the youngest performer in the history of the festival with the title "The youngest participant of the Festival" and "The program of this concert will represent the essence of the whole festival - classical values, retrospection and look in the future ... “(The program of this concert will contain the core of the whole festival - classic values, a look back and a look into the future ...).

In 2012 Umi Garrett gave solo concerts in Italy, Poland, Germany, Lithuania (with the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra), at the Vianden Music Festival in Luxembourg , where she was considered a “child prodigy” in an interview in the Luxembourg television studio, Australia, Japan and Panama.

She played at Community Concerts of Rancho Santa Fe in 2014 and was also a recipient of the MusicFest Perugia Scholarship.

Asia

Umi Garrett made her debut on the Asian continent in China with the Wuhan Symphony Orchestra in 2010 at the age of nine in Wuhan .

She created a special concert series called the Kizuna Concert Series to help people in Tōhoku , Japan , where a 2011 tsunami flooded the area. She then gave two concerts in Tōhoku.

In 2015 Garrett was invited to a show by the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the peace treaty with the United States.
