Petitesse

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a petitesse ( French: petit 'small') a thing can be named that is a small thing of little value in the eye of the beholder . However, this can also mean an event of little importance, i.e. a minor matter, or a nullity.

The term had almost disappeared from German usage until it was used by Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt in a striking statement and as a result was picked up by the media, which helped the Petitesse to gain new prominence.
