history

Peter Hambro Mining was founded in 1994 as a British-Russian company by Peter Hambro and Pavel Maslovskiy for the purpose of gold mining in the Russian Amur region . A license was obtained to develop the Pokrovskiy gold ore deposit, which is located in the western part of the Amur region, approx. 10 km away from the next station of the Trans-Siberian Railway . The gold mine started production in 1999 and had produced around 2 million oz of gold by 2015.

In 2001 the mining license for the Pioneer deposit, also in the Amur region, approx. 30 km from Pokrovskiy, was acquired. Peter Hambro Mining was brought to the alternative investment market to finance the mining. The Pioneer Mine started production in 2008. With an annual gold production of over 300,000 oz, it is the largest gold mine in the Amur region. The following year Aricom was acquired, the company's shares were listed on the London Stock Exchange and the name was finally changed to Petropavlovsk plc in September 2009.

In 2003 and 2005, also in the Amur region, the Malomir and Albyn gold deposits were acquired, which then started production in 2010 and 2011.
