Pfaff is the name of a German family of instrument makers .
From the family of the lathe operator Johannes Pfaff (* 1776, † 1829) from Kaiserslautern, five sons learned the trade of instrument maker in the first half of the 19th century .
- Johann Jakob Pfaff (* 1807 in Kaiserslautern, † 1845). An initial advertisement for his instruments is known from the Kaiserslauterer Wochenblatt of July 8, 1832.
- Franz Pfaff (instrument maker) (* 1815 in Kaiserslautern, † 1895 in Kaiserslautern) offered flutes, clarinets and trumpets at the "Exhibition of Industrial Products of the Palatinate" in Kaiserslautern in 1843. After the death of Franz Pfaff's grandson in 1899, Friedrich Mallach took over his musical instrument factory. Instruments with their own logo complemented the tried and tested Pfaff instruments from around 1915. The shop closed in 1930 after it was devastated by opponents of the Palatinate separatists , of which Mallach was one of the supporters.
- (Johannes) (John) Pfaff (* 1817 in Kaiserslautern, † 1887 in Philadelphia), had a small instrument trade there.
- Georg (George) Pfaff (* 1821 in Kaiserslautern, † March 3, 1867 in Sacramento ). There he ran an instrument trade with Salvator Rosa.
- Georg Michael Pfaff (1823–1893) opened a workshop for brass instruments on Rummelstrasse in 1848. In 1862 he presented his first sewing machine. Until 1873 he also offered sewing machines in addition to instruments. In 1873 he gave up making musical instruments and then devoted himself exclusively to the construction of sewing machines.
