The Palatinate-Ardennes is a comparatively young horse breed that originated around 1900. The breeding basis of the Palatinate-Ardennes breed was and is still today characterized by breeding animals of the French cold blood breeds, such as Lorraine , Comtois and Ardennes in particular , as well as Belgians , Rhenish-German cold blood and South German cold blood. Pure breeding was not a dogma from the start. The pedigree book of the Palatinate-Ardennes has always been open. In the past 100 years of Palatinate-Ardennes breeding in the Rhineland-Palatinate-Saar breeding area, the breeding work was clearly geared towards the breeding goal and used the advantages of the breeds mentioned to achieve a cold-blooded horse that is in demand and therefore sellable. When accepting the breeding breeds, the preservation of the breed-specific characteristics of the Palatinate-Ardennes is particularly important. Against the background of the consolidation of the Palatinate-Ardennes breed, the current breeding program provides that from the year of birth 2008 a Palatinate-Ardenner must have at least one parent of the Palatinate-Ardenner breed.
