Views of the Palatinate Sml from 1899

The Palatinate Sml from 1899 are two-axle platform wagons - type "S" - with a loading weight of 15 t according to sketch 146 of the wagon inventory for the K.Bay.Sts.B. railways on the left bank of the Rhine. from 1913. The cars were built in both unbraked and braked versions.

history

These are third generation cars that were used in large numbers from 1899 and were built until 1904. A replacement of the type by the following type of association did not take place. In the 1913 directory, a total of 138 unbraked and 52 braked were listed. It is not known whether the wagons also came to the Reichsbahn.

Constructive features

Underframe

The chassis of the wagons was already built completely from profile iron and riveted. The outer side members had a U-shape with a height of 300 mm and outward flanges. The lower edge was 935 mm above the SOK. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings with safety hooks according to VDEV, the drawbar was spring-loaded throughout. The wagons were equipped with rod buffers with an installation length of 600 mm, the buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm. The height of the buffer stand was 1,050 mm.

drive

The cars had riveted half-timbered axle brackets made of flat iron with the long, straight design. The axles were stored in split sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies and a wheel diameter of 1014 mm. The multi-layer spring package was attached to the spring brackets with simple straps. The braked wagons were equipped with a manual spindle brake, the crank of which was attached to the side of the open brakeman's seat. The brakeman's seat was placed on the curved front wall. The brake acted on all wheels on both sides.

Car body

The loading floor of the car consisted of 60 mm thick planks that were attached to the undercarriage at right angles to the direction of travel. The height of the floor was 1,285 mm above the SOK. The front and side walls consisted of 40 mm thick boards, the planking was horizontal. The front walls were fixed but could be demolished - except for the front wall on which the brakeman’s seat was attached. The side walls were only 400 mm high and could be folded down.
