Under sheet no. 170 of the wagon inventory of the Palatinate Railways, various types of tank wagons from private operators are summarized.

history

Some of the private tank wagons of the network of the Royal Bavarian State Railways (formerly Palatinate Railways) on the left bank of the Rhine are listed under sheet number 170 in the wagon directory of the Royal Bavarian State Railways - Palatinate Network, as of March 31, 1913, including the Updates until March 1916.

However, there are different designs. This does not necessarily mean that the respective cars were actually identical. Constructive changes alone required the load.

Constructive features

Underframe

The frame: consisted entirely of riveted rolled sections. The outer side rails were U-shaped with outward-facing flanges. As a towing device, the wagons had screw couplings with safety hooks according to VDEV, the drawbar was spring-loaded throughout. The wagons had double-slotted basket buffers with an installation length of 650 mm. The buffer plates had a diameter of 370 mm. These were later partly replaced by case buffers.

drive

The wagons had riveted half-timbered axle brackets made of flat iron of different designs. The axles were stored in split sliding axle bearings. The wheels had spoked wheel bodies and a wheel diameter of 1014 mm. The suspension was attached to the spring brackets with simple straps.

The braked wagons were equipped with a manual spindle brake. The brakes acted on all wheels on both sides.

The Pure Oil Company - an American company - received permission to set up a tank farm on May 12, 1898 at the request of the Baden State Railways in the commercial port of Mannheim. When the USA entered the war in 1917, the company's business activities in Germany ended. From then on, the wagons must have had other owners.
