Drei Tage Mittelarrest is a German comedy by Georg Jacoby from 1955. The film is a remake of the 1930 military swank.

action

The mayor of a garrison town has an aversion to the military and is in constant dispute with the garrison commander. The mayor's wife, who has military ancestry, tries again and again to mediate in the dispute. The mediation attempts are also made with the ulterior motive of marrying the daughter Grete to the first lieutenant von Feldern. The dispute escalates when it turns out that the mayor's cook has given birth to an illegitimate child and the child's father is to be found among the soldiers. Both the mayor's wife and the mayor himself try to find a substitute father for the cook's child independently of each other. In the end, a father is found. But it is neither one of the two mayoral surrogate fathers nor the real father. The cook Auguste chooses the musketeer who stood by her side in the mess in the search for her father. Only when new mayor elections are just around the corner are all those involved ready to compromise and organize a celebration of reconciliation.
