Bobby E. Lüthge (born September 12, 1891 in Gliwice ; † March 10, 1964 in West Berlin ; actually Robert Erwin Lüthge ) was a German screenwriter .

Life

Bobby E. Lüthge studied economics and literary history in Berlin. Between 1919 and 1958 he wrote around 190 film scripts (around 100 of which were for silent films ). In addition to non-political entertainment films, he has been writing screenplays for propaganda films since the 1920s: Fridericus Rex (1922) propagated the re-establishment of the monarchy; several military comedies glorified the military. In 1928, based on Lüthge's script, the anti-communist propaganda film The Secret Power was shot. In 1932 he wrote the screenplay for Hitlerjunge Quex (a propaganda film to popularize the Hitlerjugend , based on the novel of the same name by Karl Aloys Schenzinger ).

In addition to his work as a screenwriter, Lüthge was also active as a journalist, including as editor of the magazine “Bühne und Film” and as co-founder of the magazine “ Film-Kurier ” (1919). He also wrote some novels, plays and the libretto for the operetta "Chanel No. 5" (1947, music by Friedrich Schröder , lyrics by Günther Schwenn ).

During the period from 1933 to 1945 around 25 of his scripts (mostly non-political content) were filmed. Lüthge was able to continue his career after 1945. In addition to homeland films such as Schwarzwaldmädel (1950) and Grün ist die Heide (1951), he began to build on his military comedies of the 1920s again in the 1950s when the Adenauer government was preparing for rearmament (e.g. Mikosch moves in , 1952).

Lüthge's marriage to actress Hanni Weisse was divorced. Lüthge is buried in the Dahlem forest cemetery .

Individual evidence

  1. In a letter to the editor in Spiegel issue 47/1950 p. 43 Lüthge denies being the author of the film. Another reader then wrote a letter to the editor (issue 1/1951 p. 43), according to which Lüthge had boasted to him before the end of the war that he was the author of the film.
