Berg parish church

The Berg an der Krems parish church is a Roman Catholic church building in the late Gothic style in the village of Berg in the municipality of Ansfelden . It is surrounded by a few houses on a hill and is one of the 15 church buildings in Upper Austria that are consecrated to St. Vitus .

Foundation and style of construction

There are no records of the year of construction, but in the parish chronicle of 1902 there are references to a construction period between 1394 and 1616. It is likely that the Volkerstorfer von Weißenberg were the builders of the church building. In the church there is a neo-Gothic high altar, which was designed in 1898 by the Ansfeldn sculptor Oberhuber. In 1984 the interior was renovated, in 1993 the tower.

Parish business

In the church service order of the mother parish of Ansfelden from 1682, the church service order for St. Veit, which was valid for centuries, was stipulated, which provided for a church service 3 times a year. In order to shorten the course of the Sunday service for the students of the nearby Ritzlhof agricultural school, a regular service in Berg was requested in 1875. Until 1894, however, this was only promised in the winter half-year (November to March). From 1894, church services were held every Sunday and public holiday, with a few exceptions. A pastor had his permanent residence in Berg since 1902, so the branch church became an expositur. Pastoral care is currently carried out by a parish moderator and a pastoral care team.

School in Berg

Between 1853 and 1968 there was a school building in the immediate vicinity. Classes took place in the vicarage until 1902. With the opening of the Kremsdorf elementary school, the Berg school was closed.
