The Ernsthofen parish church is located south of the cemetery in the middle of the village in the municipality of Ernsthofen in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated on the feast of the escape of the Virgin Mary , belongs to the dean's office in Haag in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

A church was documented in 1377. Initially, the church was a branch of the parish church of St. Valentin under the patronage of Erla Abbey on the banks of the Enns . 1776 Parish Vicariate, the church was elevated to a parish church in 1939.

Because of the floods, the town center was relocated to the east and the church was rebuilt on today's site according to the plans of the architect Georg Bruckmayr using the parts that were still usable while largely retaining the old floor plan. The foundation stone was laid in 1666. The church was completed in 1676/1677 and only consecrated in 1687. In 1871/1895 the church was given a historicist interior; some of the earlier furnishings were transferred to the Kanning branch church . In 1893/1894 a renovation / restoration took place with the restorer Franz Arbeshuber. Restorations took place in 1977 and 1998.

The north-facing early baroque hall church with an exposed south tower has a recessed polygonal choir.

Furnishing

The uniform neo-Romanesque and neo-Gothic furnishings were created by the sculptor Max Oberhuber in 1893/1895.

Josef Breinbauer built the organ in 1871.
