The Roman Catholic parish church Kapfenstein stands on a hillside south under the Kapfenstein Castle in the municipality of Kapfenstein in Styria . The parish church of St. Nikolaus belongs to the dean's office Feldbach in the diocese of Graz-Seckau . The church building is a listed building .

history

The church was built on the site of a former castle chapel in the 17th century and elevated to a parish church in 1779. Interior restorations were carried out in 1919 and 1981.

architecture

The west-facing church building has a three-bay nave with groin vaults on belts on pilasters. A small rectangular chapel adjoins the third yoke on both sides. The organ loft has three axes. The single-bay choir has a 3/8 end, the sacristy attached to the south has a vaulted gallery. The square west tower connects to the choir.

The Walter brothers designed the neo-baroque ceiling paintings in the 2nd quarter of the 20th century.

Furnishing

The altar

The interior is from the second quarter of the 18th century. The niche figures Helena and Augustine in the chapels are from the middle of the 17th century.
