The parish church Mittergrabern is slightly elevated in the northern area of ​​the village Mittergrabern in the market town of Grabern in the Hollabrunn district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to Saint John the Baptist belongs to the Hollabrunn deanery in the Archdiocese of Vienna . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

In the beginning of the 14th century there was a vicariate , which went down at the beginning of the Reformation. In 1722 the vicariate was re-established and around 1784 a parish was established.

In 1241 a chapel was mentioned in a document. Today's small staggered hall church with a gothic core and a north tower was built in the 13th century. Early baroque renovations followed. The church was extensively expanded to the east in the mid-19th century.

architecture

The medieval western part of the nave as well as the eastern extension around 1840 with a retracted round apse are under a uniform gable roof. The facades are simply structured with arched windows.

Furnishing

The high altar from the second half of the 19th century is a box altar with a round-arched column retable top and shows the altar sheet Baptism of Christ from the second half of the 19th century and below it an image of the grace of the Virgin in a halo from the end of the 19th century. The tabernacle bears adoring angel figures from the end of the 18th century.

The organ was built by Joseph Seyberth (1835).
