Catholic parish church of St. James in Neuhaus

The parish church Neuhaus / Suha is located in Neuhaus / Suha in the bilingual community Neuhaus in the Völkermarkt district in Carinthia . The parish church is dedicated to St. James the Elder and belongs to the deanery Bleiburg / Pliberk in the diocese of Gurk-Klagenfurt . The church and cemetery are under monument protection .

A church and a parish were mentioned in documents in 1408. The church was probably built in the second half of the 14th century.

The organ gallery

The Gothic church building has a tower on the north side of the choir. The sound windows of the tower have tracery noses. The buttresses on the nave are two-tiered, the buttresses on the choir are triple. The west portal is ogival. On the south side of the nave there is an open gallery to the west and to the east on the south side of the choir there is a baroque addition of a sacristy with an oratory above. There is an ossuary under the choir. On the outside of the south-eastern slope of the choir there are remains of frescoes from the beginning of the 15th century.

The single-bay square nave has a late Gothic star rib vault on consoles from the first third of the 16th century. The pointed triumphal arch is marked with a painted maker's mark and 1530. The one-bay choir with a five-eighth closure has a ribbed vault on consoles. The tracery windows have stained glass from the beginning of the 15th century, in the east window the Man of Sorrows in a quatrefoil, four panes show Jesus among the scribes , Christ on the Mount of Olives , the flagellation of Christ , the crucifixion of Christ , another St. Bishop with a Teutonic Knight , Jakobus the Elder, a disc with a donor, in the south-east window Madonna in a quatrefoil and ornamental nun fillings. The western gallery is made of wood.

Gothic wall painting: In medallions on the north wall and the southeast slope of the choir with half-length figures, the apostles Bartholomäus and Paulus (around 1400). In an upright rectangular image field on the triumphal arch, St. Florian from the middle of the 15th century. As a monumental representation on the north wall of the nave, the procession of the kings and the adoration of the kings from the second quarter of the 15th century, partly destroyed by baroque window openings.

Furnishing

The high altar

The baroque altars and the baroque pulpit are from the middle of the 18th century. In the openwork shrine of the high altar there is a carved figure of James the Elder from the mid-14th century. The other carved statues Peter and Paul, Katharina and Barbara were created according to the inscription on the back of the tabernacle by Johann Christian Schaden (1751). The top picture shows St. Rochus . The altar is crowned by a little eye of providence .

In the shrine on the left side altar stands a Madonna and Child. The altar panel on the right side altar shows St. Laurentius , painted by JA Strauss (around 1755). The fields of the pulpit basket show painted representations of Christ and the church fathers.

Behind the high altar is a large-format oil canvas painting of the Coronation of Mary with saints and donors from the second half of the 17th century. On an oil painting from the middle of the 18th century, St. Johann Nepomuk shown.

Bells

One bell is marked Urban Fiering 1539. One bell is marked Georg Fiering 1611.
